Before Pesach (Passover) it is customary to collect funds for Kimcha d'Pischa (flour for Pesach) or for Maos Chittim (money for wheat) to distribute to the needy and the indigent to purchase
Matzah and other necessary festival provisions.
When we come to our
Seder table, how could we make the statement 'Let all who are hungry come and eat', knowing that there are hungry people in our community? However, if we had made attempts to provide the hungry with food before the festival, we can sincerely say as we begins our seder, 'If there are still hungry people who we were unable to help because we did not know of their need, let them come and join with us.'"
